Average Indexed Monthly Earnings
Your highest 35 years of Social Security-covered earnings, wage-indexed, added together and divided by 420 months. It is the input to the PIA formula.
Each year's earnings are capped at that year's Social Security wage base. Earnings before age 60 are indexed to national average wage growth; earnings at 60 and later count at face value. Years with no earnings count as zeros if you have fewer than 35 years.
RetIQ's Detailed Earnings History does not apply wage indexing, so enter each year's earnings in today's dollars.
